We had stayed a long time and needed to go. As we took our leave, she insisted on giving me one of the flowerpots I had admired with the cactus. It was one of the nicest things she owned, and I didn’t want to take it, but she insisted, saying I was a lovely woman and a special friend. It was sad to say goodbye — I felt like I was leaving a friend behind and I knew it would some time before I saw her again.
