Houghton Mifflin, "Hundred Penny"
This children’s book is about
a one-hundred-year-old woman, Aunt Drew, who saved a penny in a box for
every year of her life.
Designer Marlisa Clapp chose to depict the parallel histories of the U.S.
penny, U.S. history, and a fictional character on a timeline. The top
purple bar reveals events in Aunt Drew’s life. The middle white
area covers the history of the penny, and the gold area illustrates events
in U.S. history. Layered in the timeline to educate and attract a fifth-grade
audience are photos of antique pennies and various historical data.
